Word on the Street: Tunbridge Wells

I moved down from London with husband 2 yrs ago. We now have a baby. So much to do for all of us. Great infrastructure. Most importantly we feel safe and feel there is an excellent future for our children here.

Agree with Rebekah the coffee at Banjo's is the BEST without contest.

...based on recommendations from friends and 'Word on the street' and have not been disappointed. My son is now at an excellent local school and all his friends live within walking distance which makes life so much easier. We live in the town centre only metres from great shops and restaurants, yet our street is quiet and locals respectful. There are some excellent restaurants and bars and so many events on they are hard to keep up with. (Try 'Banjo's' in Ely Court in the town centre for the best coffee in town and a friendly local crowd.)

The down side to Tunbridge Wells is parking which is hard to find, but if anything this encourages us to walk rather than drive. I use my car about once every three weeks.

I work in the city and the rail service to London is generally reliable, fast and clean (but not cheap) at around £280 for a monthly ticket. Allow around 50 minutes for the express to Cannon St or Charing Cross,  5 minutes less to London Bridge.  I'm now buying a house about 4 streets from the one I currently rent so that pretty much says it all. I love living here. Rebekah.

... We are surrounded by excellent shops, parks and good schools. It's a really nice area to live and bring up children. The traffic is very heavy at times and I cannot understand why more people don't walk instead of driving. The school run for example: we always walked to school as kids back in the 70's. Some people today are just disorganised and lazy!

The infrastructure is struggling and traffic is appalling; jammed up with 4x4s on the school run. However there are more than enough Italian and Indian restaurants to go round. House prices are steadily rising and developers are still buying land and building flats.

... It's clean, I feel very safe there, the schools are excellent and the train service to London is good - I wish I wasn't moving!

It is an amazing place to live; it has every thing for the family. It's a beautiful clean town, with a fantastic shopping complex, and easy accessible to London, to beaches and to the country side.

It's a beautiful place, i miss it so much.

Many restaurants and locals venues always aiming to please, the parks are kept clean and tidy. Shopping always up to date and public transport always easy to find and use.

As for the locals: sociable, kind and willing to help. Overall the perfect situation to stay for a little while or for long term living!
