There are trains to London and Birmingham and the M40 nearby. Located in the Chiltern AONB which means some very pretty countryside and fabulous country houses (NT). Sporting facilities are also excellent.

... It's very quick in and out of Marylebone, yet its location in the Chiltern Hills means there's scenic outdoor places or merit along with picturesque villages and small surrounding towns, and country pubs with great food. Wycombe's got plenty to do but could do with a wine bar or something a little more upmarket in the food and drinks department, though there are some decent places to eat.

The town is particularly friendly, making the shopping areas pleasant and nightlife generally good fun. There's two shopping centres, a pleasing, varied town centre layout, and a big new investment and new shopping and leisure complex under construction.

It is a special place, with very special people. The young people here are wonderful.

The District Council are really helpful, running good services. The General Hospital is an eyesore, but inside there are angels. Sports facilities and shopping good, public spaces and parks well tended.

The Swan Theatre is excellent. New town centre development(The Eden Project)is really exciting. Brilliant schools and lively churches. Come and see us.

It's a lovely place to live; location is excellent, excellent countryside, near London. The town centre has much to offer.

It's certainly no worse a town centre then the rest of Britain today. In fact, it's more safe then other parts of England.

I have never had anything to complain about except the lack of larger national retailers. But then we are only 35 mins away from Brent Cross in London, Uxbridge, Reading, Slough, Bicester, oh I could go on...
Excellent schools, open spaces, I would not move back to London.

However the town does have a lot to offer, and the setting (a valley in the Chilterns) is beautiful.

It is just a shame that the multi-racial community do not live together in complete harmony. Also, almost every area of the town has a high amount of ethnic minorities; not just Micklefield, Castlefield and Desborough (as implied in the last opinion). For example, the Bowerdean estate is half Asian in population, and there is an increasing black community in most other districts of the town.

The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the train service is improving, so getting to London is no problem. It is a worthwhile place to live!

The two shopping centres are OK but have little that you cannot find in any town centre. Nearby towns like Reading, Watford and Uxbridge offer far better shopping.

The 35 minute train journey is achievable if you pick the one with just 2 stops. Many of the trains take closer to 50 minutes but at least it is better than fighting your way through the A40 Western Avenue carnage in the car.

There is NOT a bowling alley or an "out of town" shopping centre. The new town centre development has been waiting for over 3 years due to problems re-locating the big supermarket.

Hughenden Park is very pleasant (1 mile from the town centre) but the "waterfalls" have a drop of approximately 20 inches and the church and manner house are reached via a cattle field.

Town centre nightlife has improved dramatically over recent years and I have succesfully avoided the hooligan element but, like all towns, it certainly does exist. There is, however, a distinct lack of variety in restaurants.

The "multi-cultural" society includes a higher than average concentration of afro-caribbean residents in the area called Micklefield and there are the Asian populated areas of Desborough and Castlefield. That is not a criticism or a racial slur but do not expect blacks, whites and Asians living together in surburban bliss.

Property prices (and parking charges) are high but unemployment is low. The surrounding countryside is home to some even more expensive villages with a good selection of country pubs.

The town has always had a good and traditional high street market, and the council are alwys trying to keep the town up-to-date. The town has been getting a bad reputation in recent years but despite this in 32 minutes in a car you can be in one of the most beutiful parks in this area of the counrty. Hughenden park is a joy to sit in and has something for everyone. A manor house, pretty church, woodland walks, waterfalls and river, wildlife and animals, picnic areas and childrens play park. I urge anyone to take a closer look at Wycombe. It has its bad bits but its good parts are fantastic. There are lots of advantages with living in High Wycombe. Lots of jobs, small communities that surround the main town such as Hughenden and Downley. A short distance from London and within 10 minutes the countryside. Not much more to ask for really.

...far enough away to be out of all the hustle and bustle! It has got a reputation but there are always bad bits of areas and other nicer bits, and Wycombe has its advantages!

You should not judge a town by some bad estates and a rowdy town centre, you have to look at the advantages.

There are many advantages of Wycombe such as the 2 shopping centres (and another out of town centre), the great sporting facilities, especially the "Wycombe Summit" which is Britain's longest ski slope, the big cinema, theatre, bowling alley, the lovely surrounding countryside, the beautiful hills, excellent access to London (35 minutes by train), a very multi-racial community, and another big shopping/cinema complex will soon start to be constructed.

Just stay away from the dodgy areas, don't go looking for trouble and Wycombe will be a good place to live.
