Great schools for children and leisure facilities. I have lived here since I was five and have definitely enjoyed myself. I'd certainly recommend living here because there is always something to do. Hertfordshire is a great place to live.

New places are opening up all the time. A new hotel is being converted as we speak and Wetherspoons is coming.

There are great places to eat, from the chains to individual places.
"Serendipity" near Waitrose has some brilliant sandwiches which are made there and then - so you have to wait a while but they are definitely worth it and are also extremely reasonable. Much better than buying cold, pre-packed ones! It also sells some interesting US foods along with other deli stuff.

The market on Saturday is great and they have 2 brilliant plant stalls.
One has some fabulous cut flowers, like you would see in 'Country Living' and the other has some very reasonable plants for the garden (10 perennials for a fiver!)

The Marquee is a great small venue for local bands. Very popular.

The clothes shops are getting better with some great individual ones like "Kitten" and "Ginger Lillie" We just need a decent shoe shop now!!

Schools are great and my son goes to Simon Balle which is fantastic.
I couldn't wish for a better school. They have very encouraging and supportive staff with a great attitude to the children. It has a brilliant atmosphere. Children always appear happy and polite with no reports of bullying, and my son has been there for 4 years.

Hartham Common is great to take children with the rivers for paddling in and catching fish with nets. The cycle paths go all the way to London! Swings, kite flying, skateboarding, go-cart-kiting, football, tennis etc., etc.

Cannons Gym is great too, although a little expensive, but then no children go there, which is rather nice sometimes! Great pool, steam room and sauna.

There are two mainline stations into Liverpool Street and King's Cross.

We are very lucky!!

But quickly moved back again, when I realised how superior the quality of life of life is in Hertford. It's an amazing little place to live with a real community spirit.

I still commute back into London to work and it is a longish journey but the benefits of Hertford outweigh the travel 100 to 1. The town is nice, the people are nice, the schools are nice....it's just got much more of a community feel than anywhere in London could ever have.

...that also has a huge common in the middle which is a paradise for families, birdwatchers and sports players. Actually has four rivers running through it. Two train stations serving the London commuter - one to Liverpool Street/Tottenham Hale and one to Moorgate/Kings Cross/Finsbury Park.

By day Hertford is a small quiet market town but, in the evening, it transforms itself into a bustling cafe-scene with numerous pubs, bars and restaurants to choose from. So trendy that people from North London come here rather than going "down the West End" for a night out.

...this town has so much to offer - the best I believe being the magnificent bike-trails. Hertford is a great market town and great investment opportunity for buy-to-lets avoiding atrocious prices in greater London...give it 3-5 years and the rental yields will be outstanding.

... and have two children now aged 9 and 7. Its the best place to raise children I could have chosen.

Plenty to do, lots of space for running around, riding bikes plenty of pubs to mix adult socialising in the afternoons and childrens fun. The atmosphere is great.
Wouldn't move for the world!

Hertford is a small and beautiful town though there is not much to do for teenagers. This is why I am a member of the East Herts Youth Council; we are currently building a skate park in Hertford and everyone's dream is to have a cinema but so far we haven't had much luck. The traffic is a big problem in Hertord and what we need here is a bypass.

...(Ask, Pizza Express, Cafe Uno, etc.) and modernised bars (Baroosh, Barge, etc.). Limited but improving range of shops (WH Smith / Boots / Monsoon / Waitrose / etc.). Great new housing developments by the river. Traffic can be a real pain during rush hour. And the town centre is very lively on weekend evenings, best avoided later on unless you want to risk slipping over on a dropped kebab.

It still has its local Saturday market which dates back several hundred years. It has an aged yet equally modern feel. It is a wonderful town to live in with all amenities close at hand.
