There are plenty of shops providing everything you need for every day life. The trainline links you up with London and you are in Brighton within the hour. It is green and leafy here. What else does one want?!

...and has since grown into a much larger place with several new developments (there still is a small market every Saturday morning in Railway Appoach). The historic picturesque High Street has many period buildings adding a touch of old amongst the modern.

Residential developments began in the 1950's with the first being on the Imberhorne area where the famous Blount sisters lived (they built the Catholic primary school and the Catholic Church 100 years ago).

The Blount sisters and their brother Edward (St Edward's Close off Crossways Avenue is named after him) lived in The Manor in the area which is now Campbell Crescent. In those days rhododendrons flourished all around the area and for a time East Grinstead was renowned for them! Now much of the area has become residential although Imberhorne farmland is so far safe from the developers.

The town has grown and changed over the years with many families migrating down from south London and other areas. East Grinstead properties were relatively cheaper than those nearer the M25 and further north.

There are many primary schools; playgroups and nurserys; two secondary schools of good reputation and several private schools.

There is a small theatre and also a cinema complex and bowling alley and night clubs. The King Centre Leisure Centre was revamped a few years ago and provides swimming and a gymnazium etc. There are two major supermarkets in the town as well as several doctors' surgeries and dentists!

East Grinstead is ideally situated with the coast being some 30 miles south to Brighton and Eastbourne on the M23 and A22 respectively. The Ashdown Forest is to the east with walks and forest views. The major towns of Tunbridge Wells, Crawley and Haywards Heath are within easy driving distance.

Since the East Grinstead line to London Bridge/Victoria via East Croydon was electrified the rail journey to London is approx. 50 minutes.

East Grinstead is a town suitable for growing families and singletons alike. Come and see for yourself!
