As it is a good city, we bought a house there. We really liked it very much. Its space, green fields, grid systems, lakes and red carpets are really what differentiate it from other UK cities.  So, I am sure we would live again in this excellent city when we have an opportunity to. ...The main town is broken into city blocks like in America. Nearly every block has a shop, a pub, a takeaway of some sort and a green park area.

All the roads are lined with trees and there are little forests and grassed areas all over the place.

There are some large green areas which are ideal for family picnics and the like.

There is a huge music scene in milton keynes, over the summer there is a local festival on nearly every weekend. There are alternative nights as well as the more mainstream clubbing experiences... you just have to look for them.

However I now live in Newport Pagnell, which is on the outskirts of Milton Keynes. Close enough to enjoy all the benefits, but far enough away that the houses are not identical, its a 5 minute walk into countryside and Motorbike rides are easily done.

The buses are fairly regular, except to really far flung areas (like Olney), and the price is reasonable. The train station is one of the main ones so can get you to London Euston in less than 40 minutes if you catch the right train.

People put Milton Keynes down a lot, but I'd rather live here than London, Birmingham or any the big grey cities... yet it offers as much to do as any of these.

... I am still living in Stoke but would love to move back to my home town eventually. I love MK for the greenery - which is lacking in Stoke - and the fact most of my family live there. Yes it's developing fast and it's a haven for cars on the grid roads but it's well balanced with delightful green areas and ideal for families.

Choice is plentiful and despite old sayings about the city of roundabouts and concrete cows, MK has much to offer everyone. I think it can come across as being a monotone place to those only paying a brief visit but look closer at the many villages and history surrounding the area and you will find much to please.

Young people are highly valued here and that means a lot. Please don't put MK down until you've actually spent more than one month here, it's just not fair.

It's developing more and more each day and is a great place to consider for living, investing or for business.

Word On The Street: Milton Keynes

... I have started a business here that I believe would have been much harder elsewhere. Where can I get "I love MK" bumper stickers?

Word On The Street: Milton Keynes

... There is so much to do for everyone. As a single person I loved the shops and the nightlife and now I have a family I enjoy being here even more. My young children are spoilt for choice. There are lots of clubs/activities for toddlers, parkland to run around with your dog and a handful of lakes to walk or jog around!

... I have to say that despite my initial reservations I really like living here! As to the comment "there's nothing to do except shop", in the past week at least one member of our family has: been to the cinema, walked through the 'bluebell woods', been to the theatre, been swimming, fed the ducks at Furzton Lake, played basketball and been to the Arabian Gym.

Other things we couldn't fit into the week (!) were bowling, watch MK teams play football, Ice Hockey or Basketball, play numerous other sports or go ice skating. The number or bars and restaurants is amazing!

As you can see I'm converted to MK - and that's even with the threat of Take That playing the Bowl in the summer (which we can hear from our back garden)!

A lot of them do treat me as a non-person, especially at my son's school - no effort is made to made me feel welcome as a new parent.

... Linguistic experts have even hinted at the possibility of an MK accent found amongst those who grew up here (a cross between Cockney and Australian). I wonder if this would correlate with high viewer figures for the major soap operas?

Truth is MK is not so big, nothing that diverse or unique is going on here, and if it had been an experiment it is failing to achieve its potential. There is a very small town feel to the place. All in all MK is an overly commercial space and lacks any sense of identity.

There is a lot wrong with what could have been quite a utopian environment. But perhaps the most damaging thing is that MK is populated by a lot of people who are unwilling to challenge or change the place for the better.

It is built for the Car and it is full retail parks on a grid system. Everyone drives everywhere. The car is essential in MK and also it is a big status symbol here. It is a wealthy city with high employment and high consumerism. Low crime. There are some nice old parts such as Stony Stratford and Wolverton, but Bletchely is a dump, and above all there are not enough alternative things going on here.

It is all mainstream nightclubs and music, mainstream cinema, theme pubs etc. The worst thing is that you can't really walk home after a night out because it is so far to walk from the centre to most places and it is also very dark and scary at night because once you are out of the Centre (a huge mall) then you are faced with dark pathways that weave around and through the countless housing estates which at night time are totally dead.

MK is a convenient place in many ways however. There are no traffic jams here (yet) - but it is becoming increasingly congested as more houses are being built and more consumers are attracted here with the recent Asda superstore and the Ikea store.

If you like modern houses on estates that look like Brookside, and if you like cars and driving everywhere, and if you like shopping at huge mega stores like Tesco, Asda, DFS, Toys R Us, Pets R Us... and so on then you'll love it here. If you like small individual shops - obscure shops - arts and crafts - The Arts, indie cinema, diversity, or walking to town then don't come here.

Word On The Street: Milton Keynes

As I grew up in Milton Keynes I saw it grow from the brand new town much mocked by those outside, to the beautiful ever-expanding city it is now.

Vast amounts of trees, greenery and water sit superbly against the modern lines of the grid roads and sharp buildings. Buildings which are going up fast now as Milton Keynes enters another new period in its life.

The sky is massive in Milton Keynes and nothing beats a walk or drive on a crisp spring or autumn morning as the sun glistens off the glass of the city, shines through the millions of trees and warms your soul.

It's the fastest-growing city in England with a large multi-ethnic population working and living alongside each other.

If you want to live in the future of England, move to Milton Keynes.

For a growing city and being a family orientated place it should have a lot more facilities for kids to do a wide variety of activities, I don't feel there is enough to do apart from shopping!

Word On The Street: Milton Keynes

We get exposure to a unique experience, enjoying traditional integrated villages/countryside life while also being part of a modern, progressive community.

Word On The Street: Milton Keynes

The outskirts are beautiful, and the city centre is very fast paced and developed! A reasonable place to live, I wouldn't recommend it for families however.

Word On The Street: Milton Keynes

It has everything anyone could want, from tranquil villages within the city and beautiful lakes, to the lively CMK and Xscape building. I'm proud to say I was born in the beautiful city of MK.

Word on the Street: Milton Keynes

It couldn't be further than the images of concrete cows and urban hell. There are trees everywhere, and it's so easy to get about in the car...shame about the poor public transport mind you. Milton Keynes is a great, buzzing place to be and I can't wait to move back!

Word on the Street: Milton Keynes

There is always plenty for them and us to do and you're always just a few minutes from beautiful country walks.
The old jokes about M.K. from 20 years ago still go around but trust me M.K. is no joke as a place to live.
We are looking to move house, but never out of Milton Keynes.

Word on the Street: Milton Keynes

There is such a wide range of properties, and although some estates are less than pleasant, there are lots of nice places to live within the city.

It has just about every facility you could want, with some of the best shopping in the country, bowling alleys, cinemas, ski slopes, climbing walls, swimming pools, an ice rink, theatre etc. There are loads of clubs and bars in xscape and the theatre district, as well as a few others spread throughout the city centre.

Anyone who says we have no history is very much mistaken. We have everything from the ruins of a roman viller, to the grand historic buildings of stony stratford, and the Bletckley park museum (home of the World War II code breaking machines).

Yet, it is just so modern and clean, and has an interesting futuristic feel, particularly in the city centre, with its huge glass buildings, and wide tree-lined boulevards. All in all, its a great place to live, with below average prices for the UK - a must!
