Word On The Street: Crouch End

I love Crouch End, I've grown up in this area ...
... It's a safe a very friendly area. Most of the businesses have been here for years and years, everyone knows everyone. It's very trendy with cute bars and restaurants - lots of actors live in Crouch End too.
One thing: Starbucks has been overrun by trendy mummys and their babies - but there are lots of other unique cafes to visit.

Friendly, green, villagey, quiet and not too pretentious given its Media/Arty population - a lot of B and C list celebs are to be spotted ...
... The Broadway boasts quality gastro pubs and a host of more traditional shops. Excellent Butchers, Greengrocers, Fishmongers, plus an Organic Supermarket and several continental Deli/Cafe type places. However, the corporates are beginning to move in: Starbucks, Costa, KFC, All Bar One, etc.
Although there's no Tube, Finsbury Park is only a short bus ride away and Harringay and Hornsey railway stations are both walkable. I get the feeling Crouch End's lost a little of its character more recently, but it's still a very pleasant, yet vibrant part of London to live.

We moved down to London almost 5 years ago from Lincoln...
...and after much soul searching "fell" upon Crouch End. What can I say? It is a wonderful and friendly village. We know our neighbours and local shop owners - and regularly bump into people that we know when strolling down the Broadway.
It's sad that it is changing so quickly - please no more "international" coffee chains!! We need to keep Crouch End's uniqueness!

Lived in Crouch End for 18 years...
Recently considered moving away but just couldn't do it - the place has an infectious buzz.
Only one slight failing, in my opinion, is that the restaurants that have now populated the centre are all just ok - perfectly acceptable - but just ok. Crouch End really needs a truly excellent restaurant that is a step ahead of the rest. So come on all you would be Jamie Olivers - get to it!!

I have lived in Crouch End for three years...
I absolutely love living here, but would discourage city high fliers for whom time is money. There are a lot of young families with associated pleasant things to do. It is still very green here and there is a good mix of incomers like myself and established Londoners. Not yet do we have the sterilisation that comes from being the latest trendy place for a migrant population of property climbers. Please stay away unless you're coming to join the lovely community and slow your life down a notch!

Lived on Green Lanes since May...
Slight 'edge' to the area sometimes, but more than compensated for by cheap prices, convenient shopping and easy access out of London. Property values seem to have steadied a bit, but apparently the prices rocketed in the early part of the year because it is so affordable for the capital.

I have just moved from to a brand new development in Crouch End and am delighted with the area...
It is multicultural in the true sense in that there is integration with all commumitites creating a vibrant and interesting social and culutral mix.
It is brimming with well heeled young professionals who work in the city who enjoy the many clubs and bars along the Broadway alongside artists and musicians and middle class familiies who venture over the hill from Muswell Hill.
I would strongly recommend this area to all North Londoners who are jaded with the "Starbuckisation" of Hampstead and gentrification of Islington.

Crouch End has a village atmosphere, I strongly believe it is one the best places to live in London.

Crouch End might not have a tube station, but its transport links are excellent...
There are two train stations and three tube stations all within a 10/15 minute walk radius.
It's also one of the few places where people of different cultures genuinely mix together. Plus there are lots of restaurants, pubs (including the famous King's Head) and great boutique-style shops. There's also an organic butchers, lots of places selling fresh fruit and veg all day and night, there's a fishmongers....

Shops are brillant and cheap, fruit and veg open 24/7...
...on Green Lanes gives real cosmopolitan feel. 2 Brand new multi-screen cinemas, all major supermarkets within a stone's throw in Wood Green - you dont know how lucky you are!

I live on the N8/N6 border....
Transport links are great, the area has a vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere with a friendly, generally affluent and youngish population. There are many interesting shops and restaurants.

I own an investment property in the Turnpike Lane end of N8...
I encourage others to move to the area because of the excellent yields (10% gross) and the fact that the area is getting better and better... it's a young, lively and cosmopolitan area, but not as pricey as others like Brixton or Battersea.
