It's not a "faddy" area and Chessington does not tend to follow trends...
…It's a rock solid family area with wide open green spaces all around.
Traffic is free flowing and it's a pleasure to be able to drive around easily. Most houses are detached with drive-ways so roads are not clogged with parked cars.
Four local hospitals to choose from: Epsom, Tolworth, Kingston & Queen Mary. Four local shopping centres to choose from: Epsom, Leatherhead, Surbiton & Kingston. Two good secondary schools for girls: Tolworth Girls School & Coombe.
Chessington is a quiet, residential area, not many clubs or pubs.
Highly recommended for bringing up children.

Best town in Surrey…
…My reasons for choosing Chessington include more space, lower crime, good transport and high-quality schools, including the top performing Ellingham Primary School.
Chessington is an attractive tree-lined town with an abundance of green spaces, yet is only 35 minutes from Waterloo Station. At the same time it is easy to get into London (A3, M25) and easy to leave the country, as Heathrow and Gatwick are just half an hour away.
Good choice of attractive houses in quiet, leafy avenues and cul-de-sacs with prices rising steadily rather than soaring. Ideal place for people who want to be in the country without feeling remote.
Chessington is the next village out of London and is well placed to offer a good quality of living.

Great place to bring up kids…
…Excellent primary schools, friendly neighbours, wide open spaces, many shopping centres to choose from, houses are superb value for money (be quick), transport links NR to Waterloo, A3, M25 all easy. What more could you ask for?

Moved to Chessington in 2007 from Wimbledon. I thought Wimbledon had a community until I moved here ...
... We are a young couple who work in the city (Canary Wharf & Clapham) and find it faster to get to work now! You will notice a lot of ex-council houses but no chavs. Best place to move is Ellingham Road/ Bolton Road area. Great place to bring up children!

I have travelled the world extensively and I am always happy to come home to Chessington ...
... The proximity of the river and the parks, the number of small friendly shops and relatively low crime level. The range and variety of housing, large shopping centres (Epsom, & Kingston), great schools, World of Adventures (get the annual pass for year long fun); all combine to make me appreciate what I/we have in Chessington.

I am very impressed and have settled in well. Lovely neighbours and great access to work in London. David.

I have lived in Chessington for the last 54 years ...
... I moved here when I was 4, then brought up my own family and now the grandchildren have come along. I have no real desire to move away as Chessington has a good community and the social life is there if you want it.
The shops are very accommodating and the area 1/2 hour from London by train or anywhere else by bus. 1 hour from the coast and plenty of greenery around.

Much improved recently with really good transport links (London, Kingston for nightlife) and equally near great countryside, plus World of Adventures for kids ...
... Houses are not the prettiest, but very good value for money at the moment (but for how long?) Good school catchment area - Tolworth Girls, Tiffin etc. Plenty of local shops (and small Tescos, Sainsburys). All in all very good place to live.

Chessington has always been seen as the big council estate and trouble area ...
... But now that Kingston is so expensive, people are buying houses in Chessington, good people and it has brought the area up and up in value. Well done Kingston!

We have lived in Chessington for 10 years and we certainly got a lot of house for our money compared to the surrounding areas, and I know that still holds true today...
It is extremely convenient for the A3, M25, airports, shopping in Kingston and walks in the countryside. It's quiet and pretty safe and crime-free. I can't understand why it's not more popular.

We moved from Fulham to Chessington over 10 years ago....
Some people look down there noses when you mention you live in Chessington. I consider Chessington to be on the whole friendly, clean and a safe enviroment to raise a family. Were now in our second house in Chessington. We love it.

Chessington is a nice place to live...
You can easily get access to London if you want, but otherwise you can happily live the surburban lifestyle. Lots of good schools for families, lots of green spaces too. Good shopping 10 minutes' drive away in Kingston, 20 minutes' drive to Guildford for shopping too.
Regular train service straight to Waterloo, every half an hour.
So all in all, a good place for families but also for single people too.

Still reasonably priced houses but starting to increase quite quickly...
Only 15 minute drive to Kingston town centre. Two stations South/North direct to Waterloo. M25 10 minutes away. A3 5 minutes away. Lots of green spaces. A nice place to live.

Chessington is a great place to live...
... with good local services, excellent local transport and within easy reach of brilliant shopping in Kingston, Epsom and Sutton. Five minutes drive and you're in the countryside or on the M25 which takes you anywhere.
I sent my boys to local schools and they are doing very well indeed.
The nicest residential part is probably the Bolton Road area. I just wish I could afford to live there.

A trip down memory lane...
...I lived in Chessington 1947 to 1963 and remember the bulldozers round the back of St Mary's. Lived in 32 Ashby Avenue - sold for £10,000 in 1973. Now live in Perth, Western Australia but the aerial photos in Multimap.com bring it all back, including Moor Lane primary. Little seems to have changed near Ashby except for the price!
Oh to be in England now that spring is here. Cheers.
John Hinton.

I have lived in Chessington all my life!
The night life there is non-existent (which means you can get a decent night's kip), but there is always Kingston and Surbiton! (really easy to get to).
There isn't much traffic for the World of Adventure round where I live (Chessington North) as most of the traffic comes through Leatherhead from the A3.
There are a few chip shops, Indian restaurants and pizza places, and a late night supermarket as well... and some nice pubs too.
For pizza ring up a pizza place in Tolworth (they deliver!).. there is fierce competition between pizza places there, if you are collecting the pizza yourself (about a 5-10min drive away), you are able to get some smashing deals... (like a huge pizza for 7:50 and I do mean huge!)
Oh yeah, transport is good. The train leaves every half hour from Chessington, also there are buses to Kingston (every 15 minutes), Leatherhead, Epsom, and Tolworth.
It is possible to survive without a car in Chessington, because you have got regular buses.
As for supermarkets, due to my job, I work weird hours.. (computing), so I tend to buy my food from 24-hour supermarkets (Tesco or Asda), which are about a 20 minute drive up the A3.
These types of places sell almost everything - put it this way, at about Wednesday 1:30am I was able to buy a swimming costume!

I have lived in Chessington since Aug 99...
I like it. Close to Chessington World of Adventures which is good for visiting but bad for traffic.
I live right by Chessington South Station which has services twice an hour.
Chessington is right on the edge of suburbia and a short walk will put you in the middle of Horton Country Park. There are lots of cycle paths and foot paths.
Chessington North has a parade of shops but we are only 10 minutes or so from Kingston.
Is this a help?
