Consumer Confidence Stays Upbeat In October
Nationwide Consumer Confidence October 2009: Key Findings
- Nationwide's Consumer Confidence Index in October was unchanged from September's score of 72, the highest level this year.
- Within the overall score, the Spending Index was also unchanged, while the Present Situation Index crept up by two points.
- However, when it came to the Expectations Index – a measure of how people felt about the economic and employment situations in six months – consumers were less confident than they were last month, with the score slipping by two points.
- Despite this, when it came to house prices in six months' time, respondents anticipated a rise in value of 1.5 per cent compared to 1.2 per cent in September - the highest level since October 2007.
