House Prices Up; Buyer Enquiries Down

House prices edged up in October but the number of buyer enquiries slowed, says the latest survey from Hometrack…

Commenting on this month's survey, Richard Donnell, Director of Research at Hometrack, said: "House prices over October may have risen but these rises were registered across just 16 per cent of the market.

"Across the remaining 84 per cent of the country, property prices remained static. This and recent Hometrack surveys have shown how the majority of price rises and general improvement in housing market conditions have been concentrated primarily in London."

Christmas Slowdown Expected

Hometrack's October survey also noted a continuing decline in the number of buyers registering with estate agents

Richard Donnell commeted: "Over the spring and early summer, agents were reporting new buyer registrations growing by an average of 7.5 per cent per month, but the last three months have seen new buyer registrations average just 1.1 per cent a month.

"Looking ahead, new buyer registrations are likely to slow further in the coming weeks as we approach Christmas. And with a continuing lack of new property for sale, prices are expected to remain under upward pressure in the near term."
