Expat Kids Benefiting From Life Abroad

NatWest International's Quality of Life Index reveals that nine in ten UK expat parents believe their children are benefiting from living abroad…

Here are the key findings of the latest NatWest International  Quality of Life Index, undertaken in conjunction with think tank, Centre for Future Studies.

  • Overall, more than nine out of ten (93 per cent) of UK expat parents surveyed said they believed their children benefited from living abroad.
  • Eight out of ten (82 per cent) said the main benefit was that their children have learnt to become more self reliant.
  • Three quarters of parents (76 per cent) said their children were benefiting from the different cultural experience they are being exposed to.
  • Almost seven in ten parents (67 per cent) also believed that their children are receiving higher educational standards.
  • The education system in New Zealand ranked the highest amongst UK expats, followed by Canada and Singapore, with Spain coming at the bottom of the table.
  • The report indicated that more than half (55 per cent) of UK expats live in non English speaking countries, with the children who are learning a new language finding it much easier to do so when the language is used full time.
