Word on the Street: Saxmundham

I like Saxmundham; it is a sleepy little town that is going to change drastically...
...as the train link to London gets better and better. As city commuters move in so will we need better shops selling better stuff. Saxmundham had its golden days in the Edwardian era when the town had lots of activity, a busy farm market and the Suffolk show.

Slowly they've all gone but a few things remain; the wide street is pretty much as it was then, the people are friendly and honest and there's a bus station, a rail station and a Somerfields in the town.

It hasn't much entertainment in the evenings, the local pubs are just pubs and the place still has a half closing day - it has decency about it that some might not see - but I'm a newcomer (who has a job) and wants to be proud of what Saxmundham has and not whinge or moan about what it might have been.

I'm pleased to live here, if you want noise and retail paradise stick to the city, if you want trendy stick to Aldburgh, if you want quiet decency then Saxmundham will suit you fine; ignore the knockers and just thank goodness they're not here any more.
