When the New English Prayer Book was authorised by Edward VI, it got its first use here, with the author, Archbishop Cranmer, slipping into a pew to hear his work in action. Cranmer was subsequently burnt at the stake for heresy, but Warlington's church continued to court fame's favour. Having been architecturally spruced up by the Victorians, All Saints struck out for celluloid stardom, polishing its fifteenth century font for the cameras and hosting the first ever televised church service.
